A visual description of the data which is transferred between different applications at a modular level. The description is simplified in order to describe how the requirement for information exchange is realized.
Purpose
The DFD-view consists of an overall view of the data flows, usually in a specific application area. The view is used to describe the data which is transferred between different systems.
Way of Working
- Choose some of the logically related application areas, for example from an information flow, service flow or a process group.
- Identify those applications that are included in the intermediate flow. (See IM)
- Identify the existing integration points which are included in the flow.
- Identify which data components are transferred (Start from the list of identified and confirmed data components)
- Connect the objects to the flows.
