A visual description of the data which is transferred between different applications at a modular level. The description is simplified in order to describe how the requirement for information exchange is realized.

Purpose

The DFD-view consists of an overall view of the data flows, usually in a specific application area. The view is used to describe the data which is transferred between different systems.

Way of Working

  1. Choose some of the logically related application areas, for example from an information flow, service flow or a process group.
  2. Identify those applications that are included in the intermediate flow. (See IM)
  3. Identify the existing integration points which are included in the flow.
  4. Identify which data components are transferred (Start from the list of identified and confirmed data components)
  5. Connect the objects to the flows.
