A visual description of how value is developed between processes at a very comprehensive level. The description is simplified and shows processes and input/output in a flow. The flow is grouped in either process groups, which shows processes' hierarchical composition in the process map, or in a process flow, which shows the process' end-to-end limit regardless of process group.

Purpose

The process map is used to navigate to underlying process models. It is also used to illustrate the value creation in the business and what interdependencies there are to other processes.

  • Simplify notation which is also called as Value Chain Diagram.
  • Shows processes at level 3 and how they create value through developing business objects.
  • The processes are included in a process group or process flow (level 2).
  • Each process receives the result from one or multiple processes and convert it as an input to an output which is sent further to one or multiple processes.

Way of Working

  1. Place the process group as a background
  2. Place the processes within respective process group in the logical sequence from left to right in which the collaborate.
  3. Connect the processes with business objects.

(A prerequisite is that the processes have been identified beforehand. This is an extensive job that is done in workshops.)
