A data description is a visual description of how data components are grouped into data groups in a business. Data is displayed at an overall level.
Use
The data description is used to navigate to underlying data models. It is also used to create an overview of which data components are included in a certain data group.
Way of working
- Lay out the data group as a background, and possibly also the data domain to which it belongs.
- Place the data components within the data group and draw the relationships if these are already missing.
A prerequisite is that the data components have already been identified. This is a very extensive work which is dealt with separately.
