A visual description of the development of the value creation on a general level within the business. The model shows process steps and input/output in flows that show the main flow but also alternative flows and error flows.

Purpose

The process flow model is used to explain in a simple manner how the value creation is performed in the business and what dependences exist to other processes.

Way of Working

  1. The model can be created in several ways: from the beginning onwards, from the end backwards, or from the middle.
  2. Regardless of startingpoint, the artefact (valuable input/output) key.  Identify the artefact and name it with a noun, sometimes together with a adjective, e.g. “Supplier invoice” or “Attested supplier invoice”.
  3. Identify what has to be done for the artefact to be created: what process step. Name it with verb and noun, e.g. “Attest supplier invoice”.
  4. Connect the artefacts and process steps. The main flow is preferably put on the diagonal with error flows upwards and alternative flows under the main flow.
