A hike in the wilderness

Implementation is, in short, about realizing a planned change. This change can be seen as a hike in the wilderness. There are several questions we ask ourselves in connection with us going out and hiking. We need to plan for where we will camp and decide WHEN we will arrive.

The next question is WHAT to bring with us. In the picture below there are boots and a thermos and these are things that help us get there, but in the picture we also see a packed backpack. It is all these things that are in the backpack that are to be moved and that we expect to be with when we arrive at the camp.

The third question we ask ourselves is HOW to get there. A hike in the wilderness where we have to carry backpacks requires a lot of work.

When we put these three concepts together: the camp, the packing and the hike in one image, we also see the three meta-objects from Archimate that are central to implementation (please read more about the analysis in the article Archimate Implementation and Prime Arch) and how these can be translated to our metaphor:

Plateau is used to represent the camp, both the camp where we are today and the camp where we plan to be tomorrow.

The Deliverable label represents the packing that we must carry with us.

The Work Package represents the activities we need to carry out to move the packing from the camp today to the camp tomorrow.

We also see another object - the gap.

The Gap describes the difference between the two camps, and translated into business architecture: the difference between today's architecture and a planned specific architecture later in time.

Leverabel, Arbetspaket and Platå thus constitute the three meta-objects in Prime Arch Core, where we have simplified the framework and removed all level-specific objects.

We see that Deliverable extends over all five levels, while the work package only covers three levels. The plateau, it only covers level 2. For those who wonder how it can happen, we sort this out in the analysis of the agile development frameworks: SAFe, Scrum and Atlassian.
