Business Model Canvas (BMC) is a popular way to describe a business model for a business. "Canvas" is a one-sided description, often in large format, developed by Alexander Osterwalder.

It is a greatly simplified picture of the business with the aim of inspiring to identify new business models that can increase the company's revenue through new combinations of offer and market choice and still utilize existing resources as far as possible.

There are countless variants of BMC, some very stylish and others crammed with examples and instructions. The pictures are taken from a presentation on slideshare, see link.

For our analysis and illustration of the mapping against Prime Arch, we chose this image as a basis:

Each box in the "canvas" must correspond to a meta-object in Prime Arch. Many meta-objects already existed in Prime Arch's meta-model as they are also found in other established standards. Other meta objects are difficult to find outside the Business Model Canvas, which means that we must add them to Prime Arch and integrate them with other meta objects in order to support the Business Model Canvas.

We started from the description of Business Model Canvas in Wikipedia.

Metaobject

Mapping

Once the meta-objects have been identified, they can be easily mapped into the model:

Then we can hide the background used in the analysis and the result is a cleaner model:

The meta model

It remains to define the relationships between the business model and the included meta-objects:

Business Model Canvas and other standards

We are very proud to make the first attempt to integrate the business model with other standards. If you find other attempts among other standards, we are happy to accept tips.

We found a half-hearted attempt where someone did the following mapping and illustration of Business Model Canvas using Archimate:

A good attempt to use standard objects from ArchiMate, but the result may not have been completely successful.

Good luck with the modeling of business models in Prime Arch.
