Descriptions of businesses can happen in different levels and different degrees of detailing. Choosing the level of description is determined by where in the development process we are, for example when it comes to a transition initiative.
In the following, there are three general phases where detailing degree is increased in the building phase compared to with analysis phase.
The questions that should be answered are what shape the descriptions content-wise. The different phases contain different questions, and even the questions become more detailed in the building phase in comparison with the analysis phase.
Different dimensions of the business describe different things, but the what is mutual is that the views could be divided in levels: high level, intermediate and detailed level.
To be able to quickly understand which level a certain view is in, we have assigned the names in a logical manner:
- High Level - Map
- Intermediate Level - Description
- Detailed Level - Model
The last division of views is done based on the description aspect, sometimes even called as perspective.
Compositions are simple hierarchical views with relations such as ''contains'' and ''is part of''. Compositions describe a dimension with focus on order.
Integrations are dynamic views which are described based on a certain problem formulation with focus on flow analysis and improvement. They contain relations such as ''precedes'', ''sends'', ''has output'' and ''carries out''.
Contexts are views that describe an object in focus for analysis of relations.
When we combine these different divisions, we get combinations of Composition/Integration/Context and Map/Description/Model:
